I'm fed up with attending workshops and not understanding anything. What can I do about it?
It must be not that all others are superintelligent individuals who understand everything right after they hear it.
Or is it? After the talk, they ask questions that seem to make sense, (you can't make questions that make sense if you don't understand anything, in any case) who, as far as I know, are not working in the exact same subfield as the presenter.
I remember what I heard from another student researcher.
"Well, I don't attend workshops to understand the talks. I come to make friends."
Maybe that's the whole point of the workshops: socializing, networking, making friends. Research presentations are just useless trash bullshits. Nobody really cares about research.
Socializing? It's even more difficult than the research itself. While other people are talking to each other during coffee breaks, I just drink coffee. Isn't it the whole point of a coffee break? I like coffee. I don't like talking to strangers.
I have a listening comprehension problem. I don't want to talk to them when I don't understand them.
It's a defect in my brain function. It's hardwired into my brain since birth. Nobody has any problem, I am the only one with problems understanding what has been said.
